Welcome to AED's 2019/2020 Season!
Here are some helpful notes: (If you just registered and missed the first set of notes please email me at arabesqueetcdance@gmail.com so we can forward them to you!) 2019/20 AED POLICIES are available in the Lobby: please avail yourself of them so we are all on the same page :) IF YOU REGISTERED ONLINE: we will need your John Hancock! Papers just for you are in the studio and should be filled out by the second class please. REMINDER: If your child skips a day of class, we need to know it please! You can call or text: 802-383-8468. Especially if they take the bus. We will stop all activity until we locate your child and know they are safe. This is tricky to do while giving out snacks, changing into dance clothing and having quiet time before lessons :) WHAT TO BRING TO DANCE CLASS: Appropriate clothing (see below,) a snack (or money for a snack,) and a water bottle. WHAT ARE SNACK CARDS? We provide each child with a snack card. We have assorted granola bars 50c, and fruit gummies 25c for sale. At the end of each quarter we add up the cards and bill. PLEASE tell your child if they are not allowed to buy a snack...hungry, grumpy dancers do not enjoy classes! PLEASE NO PEANUTS! Open peanuts can trigger allergic reactions...peanut butter is just fine :) CLASS ATTIRE: We understand how busy the beginning of the year is, and that dancers sometimes move from one class to another, so we are less strict in the beginning of the year. If a hip hop dancer does not have indoor sneakers yet, please wash the soles of a regular pair of sneakers for the first week. Rocks are really frustrating to land on in ballet flats or bare feet. We absolutely cannot have them in the studio for safety reasons :) Ballerinas- if you do not have your class leotard yet, please wear any leotard and tights, or leggings and a cami. Thank-you!
ORDERS FOR NEW DANCE WEAR: Go out Sept 15 and Oct 15. Download the order form here. Leotard colors can be found under class attire. CLASS COLORS: Where do I find them? Under Class Attire, which is in the last column of the website (Policies & Info): GENTLY USED DANCE WEAR SALE: Ongoing at the studio....Drop off your clean leotards with an envelope attached. Written on the envelope should be your name and the price you are asking. When you leotard sells we will notify you and you can pick up the $. IMPORTANT DATES: Where are those? Important Dates > Under Policies & Info (the last column of the website) NUTCRACKER NEWSFLASH: Dates: Dec 21: 1 PM and 4:30 PM at the Elley Long Center (20 minute drive from AED via the circumferential highway.) This venue seats 300, so we are having fewer shows and a dessert/tea buffet. Start the holiday break off with a bang! (and fly to Grandma's on Sunday if you travel...) NOTE: the Nutcracker is not a studio-wide event...no pressure...only do it if you want. We have a fantastic time! I think that is enough information for now! Looking forward to our new school year:) Website will be updating with our introductions to our new ballet and hip hop teachers asap! Best, Martina and the staff

The classes are running smoothly, the Nutcracker is well under way, and the dancers have sugared out to the classes they will take! It is nice to see a routine taking place. As usual, some updates help the studio run just a bit more efficiently :)
Best, Martina Hello Dancers!
We are so very excited to greet you this week and kick off our 6th Season! Here are some updates for you at this busy time of year:
Best, Martina Hello AED!
I hope you are grabbing the last bits of summer sunshine! How quickly is speeds by.... For those of you returning this will be old news, but a reminder now and then is helpful. For those of you new to AED, please feel free to ask questions! CLASSES START: the 5th of September REGISTRATION: we need a hard copy for your "John Hancock," thanks! BUSES: please make sure you have posted on registration that you need your child picked up from the bus if that is the case! We pick up the Richmond bus daily but Smiley and Huntington buses are not a daily pick up. Please let us know! SNACK CARDS: are available. If your child gets a snack, we will mark it on their card. .50 for granola bar, .25 for fruit gummies. If you do not want your child to have this option please let us know. Hungry children do not usually dance well so we tend towards giving them a snack ;) AFTER CLASS CARE: is not a given. It is easily arranged but we need to ask a teen to be there for your child. Please do make sure we know that you will need the care. After we have set up the babysitting, please pay the teens directly :) LEOTARD COLORS: We are not strict about leotard colors the first few weeks of dance as we are still sorting out children's classes. Inevitably one or two children switch, and to have already bought a leotard make it frustrating! Note the LEOTARD RESALE and LEOTARD ORDERING Dates are below. HAIR:We would like ALL dancers to have their hair neatly pulled back while dancing. Please pack a brush and hair tie should your child have long hair :) HIP HOP SNEAKERS: Clean please. NO ROCKS. It is painful to step on them in ballet flats and dangerous in pointe shoes. CONTEMPORARY: IS harder than it looks...even accomplished ballerinas have to start at the beginning :) So excited we can finally offer a real program for you! Just to keep us together on all of the updates:
*Spring Show and Nutcracker dates are always made after many hours of thought and conversation with our facilities. These are the dates that work for our venues and for the complexity of our high school students' schedules. We have not set specific times due to the probability of snow days! Looking forward to another phenomenal year! Best, Martina Due to the requests we have been having we are opening up an Intro to Jazz class for Jr High and High Schoolers!
Please note the schedule changes that have taken place: Intro to Jazz: Wed 4:30-5:30 Ballet for Contemporary Thurs 4:30-5:30 Contemp 3 Friday 5:00-6:00 Looking forward to the new year! Martina We are celebrating our 5th Birthday with a float on the Richmond 4th of July parade!!!!!
We would love anyone to participate. We are looking for a flatbed to showcase dancers and sets from each of our 5 big shows. It should be super fun to celebrate all of the stories we have put out there. Contact Martina if you are interested or can help! Hello AED!

BUNS need slightly dirty hair , hair ties, hair pins (like the hairpin turn...not the same as bobby pins), bobby pins, and hair nets...hair spray, mousse or gel. Set the ponytail at the crown of the head. Separate the pony tail, and twirl one piece, lay it flat around the base of the pony tail like a cinnamon bun and pin in place. Repeat with the other pieces until you have a flat cinnamon bun of hair. Wrap the net around the bun, pin in place with the hairpins. Spray, mousse or gel the rest of the head. Bobby pin whispies....and you are set to go! STAGE MAKE-UP is necessary because the lights can make you look like you are about to pass out, or worse, have already done so! Becky and Emmy do awesome ballet wings ...they will help you at the show if you need it. Eye shadow should be in the brown/gold family NOT the blue family please! Looking forward to an awesome show!
