Hello AED!
I hope you are grabbing the last bits of summer sunshine! How quickly is speeds by.... For those of you returning this will be old news, but a reminder now and then is helpful. For those of you new to AED, please feel free to ask questions! CLASSES START: the 5th of September REGISTRATION: we need a hard copy for your "John Hancock," thanks! BUSES: please make sure you have posted on registration that you need your child picked up from the bus if that is the case! We pick up the Richmond bus daily but Smiley and Huntington buses are not a daily pick up. Please let us know! SNACK CARDS: are available. If your child gets a snack, we will mark it on their card. .50 for granola bar, .25 for fruit gummies. If you do not want your child to have this option please let us know. Hungry children do not usually dance well so we tend towards giving them a snack ;) AFTER CLASS CARE: is not a given. It is easily arranged but we need to ask a teen to be there for your child. Please do make sure we know that you will need the care. After we have set up the babysitting, please pay the teens directly :) LEOTARD COLORS: We are not strict about leotard colors the first few weeks of dance as we are still sorting out children's classes. Inevitably one or two children switch, and to have already bought a leotard make it frustrating! Note the LEOTARD RESALE and LEOTARD ORDERING Dates are below. HAIR:We would like ALL dancers to have their hair neatly pulled back while dancing. Please pack a brush and hair tie should your child have long hair :) HIP HOP SNEAKERS: Clean please. NO ROCKS. It is painful to step on them in ballet flats and dangerous in pointe shoes. CONTEMPORARY: IS harder than it looks...even accomplished ballerinas have to start at the beginning :) So excited we can finally offer a real program for you! Just to keep us together on all of the updates:
*Spring Show and Nutcracker dates are always made after many hours of thought and conversation with our facilities. These are the dates that work for our venues and for the complexity of our high school students' schedules. We have not set specific times due to the probability of snow days! Looking forward to another phenomenal year! Best, Martina

Due to the requests we have been having we are opening up an Intro to Jazz class for Jr High and High Schoolers!
Please note the schedule changes that have taken place: Intro to Jazz: Wed 4:30-5:30 Ballet for Contemporary Thurs 4:30-5:30 Contemp 3 Friday 5:00-6:00 Looking forward to the new year! Martina As you know, at AED we endorse students participating in other activities! Youth is a precious time with oodles of opportunities....and we have dancers participating in crazy fun activities all over Chittenden County and beyond. Some children focus on only one thing, some do a gazillion...the point is to be realistic as to the consequences of choices. As a dance studio who takes training seriously, we want all of our dancer's experiences with us to be successful and joyful.
So what to do? How can we maintain a studio where classes make continual progress and do not have to back track (in order to catch students up to speed because they were involved in another opportunity?) It is unfair to those who come consistently to dance class to have to stop their momentum. Here are several things we recommend.
Hello AED!
I am sending out the class recommendations today. So exciting to see so much interest in the fall!!! If you still have questions after today by all means please give me a shout out. We have increased our Hip Hop classes to include a new beginning level of Bunheads ( a class for accomplished ballerinas who want to learn hip hop.) This underlines the philosophy of our studio...if you take ballet, all other styles of dance will come easier. (Thus our name....Arabesque Etc. :) We have also increased our Contemporary line, and added in new levels of Ballet. The summer class participants are blossoming at an exponential rate!!!!! It is amazing to watch these dancers grow! If you have time in your schedule, it is not too late to catch the wave of excitement that is going on (in the air conditioning) at the studio! We still have openings in the American History Doll Camp, the Int Hip Hop Camp, the Contemporary/Jazz/Ballet Camp, and the Fairy Tale/Tiny Tot B camp. (As well as Beg HH and Beg ballet next week.) Already planning the Nutcracker and the Spring Show.....hmmmmm. any guesses? Our Seniors this year are already having fun discussing the songs!!!! Happy end of July to all! Martina We are celebrating our 5th Birthday with a float on the Richmond 4th of July parade!!!!!
We would love anyone to participate. We are looking for a flatbed to showcase dancers and sets from each of our 5 big shows. It should be super fun to celebrate all of the stories we have put out there. Contact Martina if you are interested or can help! The 2018 Nutcracker Tea will be performed December 7 - 9, 2018 at the Richmond Free Library, Richmond, VT. Save the date!
